The Apostle Paul talks about how God has equipped us to deal with thoughts that do not line up with His Word. He said, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).
Strongholds stem from misguided thoughts or beliefs that have become entrenched in your life. They oppose God’s thoughts and are frequently influenced by the devil’s deceptions and falsehoods you accept about yourself, God, or others – which grant the devil a significant influence over your actions, behaviors, and habits. The more firmly you embrace these falsehoods, the greater their grip becomes.
We need to submit every thought to what Christ says. In other words, this means that we need to push away certain thoughts that come to us. The thoughts we know we should get rid of but don’t, can become anchors.
People with strongholds have deeply ingrained ways of thinking or believing that can hurt their behavior, feelings, and spiritual life. A lot of the time, these walls are seen as obstacles that keep people from spiritual growth or freedom. They may have to do with anger, fear, doubt, or other bad feelings and beliefs that go against spiritual truths. The enemy loves to give believers ideas.Because you listened to the devil more than your heavenly Father, those thoughts, if you meditate on them, lead to strongholds, which lead to feelings, which lead to bondages and destruction.
Your thoughts are very important to God, and He made you so that you will always move in the direction of your strongest ideas. Proverbs 23:7 says, “He is what he thinks in his heart.” Every part of your life is affected by what and how you think. It is very easy to understand: what you think determines how you live. Your habits and life are controlled by the thoughts you have. It is God’s desire that His words would change everything you think and do. It says in the Bible, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God” (Luke 4:4). God says that’s how things should be for us. Most people think that the way they think is “normal,” but that’s not always the case. We think, believe, and have traditions because of our society, how we were raised, and the things we do. A lot of these are not at all like what God says.
Strongholds do not simply sit in your head, doing nothing. They develop acts, behaviors, and habits that, no matter what you do, appear hard to overcome. When you change your beliefs, you will change your actions.
Your mind is already on the way to victory as you think about Bible promises that speak God’s truth over your life. It’s not a mistake that Jesus was hung on Golgotha, a word that means “Place of a Skull” (Matthew 27:33). This big step forward needs to start in your mind.
This fight for your mind is not happening somewhere else. In this fight, our weapons are not real things that you can touch. When we believe the right things, we have powerful tools that can break down strongholds that have held us back. The devil can only make suggestions; he can’t change what you believe! Every lie and bad thought will leave once you replace that thought with God’s truth
